not another rampaging cranky ancient one

It was a few days after that strange occurrence with Mihai—and what do you know, that was his partner again for this mission! He could only sigh—where the fuck were the other gym leaders? Were they still in a post-holiday hangover?

Having gone out for the day from Fortree, he’d flown in towards Oldale, where there were reports of a rampaging Dragon-type causing havoc to the sleepy little town. What the hell, are the people so afraid of it they have to call Rangers out to actually deal with this problem? He thought crossly as he came in for a circling landing in front of the small sleepy location’s local Pokémon Center.

It didn’t take too long for him to hear the low rumbling sounds coming from somewhere beyond the town’s boundaries before it escalated into a roar that shook the trees, before he caught sight of something that looked like a head peeking out over the waist-high grass ‘sea’ that led to Littleroot down south.

“Whoa. They weren’t messing around,” he muttered, looking around and wondering where the hell was Mihai, he said through a message exchange that he was in the area—what was taking his partner so long to come around where he was?

Should he send another message to alert him of his arrival? He didn’t know.

Mihai was already in Oldale talking to some of the people. They were frightened of the old and rather large drampa that had taken up residence just outside their borders. Several people had already been injured from just getting too close and trying to pass by it. The low rumbling in the air from its constant anger had them constantly pausing to listen. The fear of it getting closer was obvious. It may not be long before it decided to attack the city directly.

"Thank you," Mihai said excusing himself from the person he was talking to. He frowned towards the direction of the roar before making his way towards the pokecenter. His now seemingly regular partner should be here soon. It was a good thing though as he knew he could trust him to have his back.

Asta walked beside him. The silvery-white ninetales was perfect for this mission as an ice-type. And he knew it unfortunately as he let out a low growl. He was eager to get to the action. His tails twitched impatiently as he stayed at his trainer's heels.

"Alexei," Mihai called out as he saw the familiar blond. "I hope you're ready for this. It's much larger than most others of its kind."

let's get down to business

“So I heard,” he began by way of greeting.

“Apparently the call was rather urgent, and by chance I happened to be the closest in the area to help you out, so shall we head out?” he asked, tilting his head in the general direction of the roaring draconid. While he did have his Gabriel to handle it, he’d figured that maybe a little more finesse would be needed to handle it.

And then there was the little tidbit about it being much larger than a normal Drampa that caught his attention. I know someone who would love that, he thought with a hint of a grin on his face. Checking his pockets, he then sighed—just his luck, he was out of Pokéballs.

“Has anyone tried capturing it?” he asked the Ranger, wondering if that was going to be at all possible. “Or has it proven to be too wild and untamable?” he mused quietly a few moments later.

He’d privately wondered, if Liam was his partner here and not Mihai—how would the entire thing go down? He was definitely certain that the other would go after the gargantuan “dog” and try to capture it, but deep in the back of Alexei’s mind he knew that Drampa wasn’t exactly a… ‘dog’, at least by Liam standards!

“Exactly how much damage has it done up to this point, we have to give it a wider berth than normal if we’re going to stand a chance to drive it away,” he said as he squared his shoulders and stared out at the sea of grass that awaited them.

Who knew what the fuck the Drampa was going to do when it spotted humans…

Mihai nodded at the idea of heading out. They could talk on the way there. He could give him a low down on what the locals had to say. Which wasn't much on why it was there only the events after it had appeared.

"Too wild," Mihai responded. "One person thought they had caught it but it broke the ball and gave them a good thrashing when they went to pick it up. Most have been minor injuries but two have ended up in ICU for pressing too much."

"Apparently anyone who gets within roughly twenty feet of it can expect it to attack. One woman claimed poachers had set out large traps to try and catch it. It only made the pokemon more fierce and drove it closer to the town," Mihai said frowning. The traps probably also made it less trusting of humans as well.

"We're going to have to trust our pokemon on this one and keep a good distance. Which means no almost killing," Mihai said looking to the ninetales who gave a huff. He was a predator by nature what did he want him to do. There was little his trainer could do to make him obey. He wasn't driven by treats or the desire to please.

In fact, the only reason he hadn't run off to do it by himself was the fact he was cautious. Victory and defeat went hand in hand and he didn't like losing so he did everything he could to ensure victory. Even if that meant working with others. Not that he was going to spare his partnered pokemon if they got in the way.

the dragon rages through the waves of trees. a dragon breath announces its increasing anger as branches snap like crushed femurs. it's territorial, patrolling the air in violent circles while further flames scare resident starly and swellow away. it's eyes catch sight of you.[break][break]

“Well that was a dumb move,” he mused, shaking his head at the mention of poachers. “Making something wild like a Pokémon angry is usually a bad idea…but to intentionally piss it off is even worse,” he added a few moments later. “Why didn’t they leave it alone in the first place?”

Oh, how he wished he could roll his eyes at whoever smart idiot thought it was a good idea trying to capture the Drampa. Maybe it was a good idea that I don’t have an extra Pokéball on me, because I bet even Liam can’t handle this one, he thought privately.

It didn’t take too long for him to hear a loud snapping noise followed by the sound of burning… burning?! “What the hell,” was all he had time for, quickly pulling two Pokéballs and tossing them forward. The first beam of red light transformed into his Glaceon, while the second forced him to back up and make some room, because it was his Lapras, Marius.

“Oops,” he mumbled, realizing that maybe sending the Lapras out was a bad idea—but wait. Since it was blowing all manner of anger and releasing its frustration with what he now recognized to be Dragon Breath, maybe this was a better idea.

“Ice Shard, go!” he called out in Zima’s direction, watching as the Glaceon quickly formed several sharp icicle ‘blades’ and sent them flying towards the Drampa, who lashed out again with another Dragon Breath attack. “Marius, can you give us some covering fire? Step in with Ice Beam if it gets out of—“ he addressed the dual-type when the Dragon Breath petered out, to be followed by an Outrage from the gargantuan Drampa.

“Shit,” was all he could mutter a few moments later. “Don’t get too close to it! Keep your distance!”

Drampa's continuous use of Dragon Rage draws their attemtion.

Glaceon and Lapras hit the field! Drampa continues with Dragon Breath while Glaceon fires off Ice Shards; Lapras prepares an Ice Beam just as Drampa switches gears and goes berserk with an Outrage.

Destruction everywhere.

Mihai had to agree with Alexei's sentiment. It had been completely stupid of them to attempt to capture it in such a way. Not that they had long to dwell on the thought too much as they cleared the outskirts of town only to see him in all his fierce glory storming through the air.

The fight had begun before they were even truly ready as the drampa's circles honed in on them. Alexei responded with his own pokemon. Ice shards shot through the air only angering him more as he became outraged. The dragon's body flailing wildly as he swooped in upon them.

"Give it some headwind," Mihai called as he grabbed another pokeball. Asta was quick to respond whipping up an icy wind to prevent the drampa from getting to close. His massive bulk struggled against the air before he pulled away angered and willing to fight wind with wind. The cold air forming into a twister before him.

"Rora, hail and rapid spin," Mihai called out now that his sandslash was free.
[break][break]
Clouds gathered overhead as rock like ice came falling from the sky just adding to the deadly twister. Thankfully Rora knew why he called rapid spin as she spun right into the twister forcing her body the opposite way. The two forces colliding and canceling one another out forcing the twister to dissipate.

so it rages on and on...

Now that the draconid was going on a rampage, it was the best time to pelt it with attacks. He knew that after a while, the Outrage would confuse the Drampa—and he was banking on that moment. In the meantime, Mihai had gone off and summoned two familiar-looking Pokémon—but they weren’t the same typing as he knew they would be.

Strange—wait, one of them looks rather familiar, he thought, catching sight of the ice-colored Sandslash, taking to the field and countering the incoming Twister with a Rapid Spin of its own. Now that the nearby weather was coming down in droves, he looked over at the rampaging Drampa.

“Marius, now!” he called out to his Lapras, throwing his left arm up just in case some random bits and pieces of Hail came striking him in the face. The dual-type then released the beam of frozen energy, Ice Beam sailing forward and catching the Drampa right before it could release another rage-induced howl, before another scattering of Ice Shards hit it from the opposite side.

“Keep it up, Zima! After that Ice Shard, try to charm it with Baby-Doll Eyes! Marius, another Ice Beam once she’s done!” he continued as the Glaceon approached, quickly charming the hell out of the now-confused Drampa.

Another loud roar came from the draconid, before another frozen beam of arctic energy came slamming into the Drampa’s face, the Ice Beam hitting it head-on.

“Shame we can’t capture it… the best we can do is drive it away!” he said, shaking his head in disappointment in Mihai’s direction. “But then again, that was already proven to be a bad idea by someone who’d gotten seriously injured because of it…” he went on, sighing again as the Glaceon rounded back and prepared to charge forward with an Ice Fang, if need be.

“Give her some cover!” he said to the Lapras, another Ice Beam rocketing towards the Drampa as the Glaceon charged forward with an Ice Fang attack.

The battle was a barrage of ice attacks at the dragon. It's roars of anger almost in part sounding like anguish. Mihai had to feel bad since it didn't stand a chance between the four ice types.

"I wish we knew what had made it so angry and brought it here in the first place," Mihai said watching his pokemon also cover the glaceon from a distance. A large ice ball being rocketed from the sandslash and the cold headwind from his ninetales keeping it in check.

His partner was right though the best thing they could do was drive it away and with this constant barrage one could see it sliding and stumbling backward. Hopefully, it wouldn't be stubborn enough to stick around until it was dead. A breath of purple colored fire was released but it did little in the wind coming back to hit it in the face.

It's confusion leaving it puzzled as to what to do since nothing seemed to be working. It took to the sky flying upward and releasing a low growl as it tried to swoop in on the lapras. Asta was having none of that though as his eyes glowed and his psychic attack sent the dragon off course. Another burst of wind and it was slammed into the ground. It's feathery form left with ice crystals forming upon it.

welp, I wanted to try and catch it... you think it'd work? But then again...

“You know, if I could talk to Pokémon, I’d outright ask about it… ask about what’s happened and got it so upset,” he began, turning to face Mihai.

He’d caught sight of the Drampa taking to the air and was about to slam into the Lapras, before a quick sweeping assist via a Psychic sent it off-course and eventually crashing into the ground.

“…I think we just made it even angrier,” he mused a few moments later, as the Glaceon cautiously approached the downed Drampa, readying an Ice Fang attack just in case the draconid got up again in a last-minute attempt to turn the tables against the four Ice-types. “But… I can’t bring myself to kill it…” he continued with a sigh, before squaring his shoulders.

“We could at least call in the high-level Ranger Union so they could at least know how to deal with it? Can you contact them?” he asked Mihai, hoping that the other had some way of contacting his superiors before turning to the Lapras and Glaceon.

“Marius, Zima. Keep an eye on the Drampa just in case it gets up again…” he instructed his two Pokémon, hoping that they’d be able to reach an alternative resolution to all this.

"I can try," Mihai responded to his inquiry. Most of the time they wouldn't even talk to grunts like him. Yet this was a pretty serious issue and he brought out his phone to contact headquarters. He stepped farther away so he could hear above the blustering winds of his ninetales.

He began explaining the situation even as the Drampa growled and roared in the background. Another twister began forming but Rora spun into it to break it apart before flipping and slamming an ice ball into its face. His head snapped back but returned with a purple breath that it released before it. Rora was too close so she curled up a bit letting it hit her harden icicle back.

Being put on hold was the worse and Mihai found himself lightly grumbling before the person he was talking to returned. He wasn't going to be allowed to talk to the higher ups but they were going to give him permission to use one of their masterballs from the local pokecenter. It would have to be turned in for rehabilitation.

"Thank you, yes I'll get it right away," Mihai said hanging up. "I gotta retrieve a masterball from the center. Just hold it off a little longer."

Mihai released Kama his scizor and grabbed ahold of her. The speedy bug could get him there a whole lot quicker. Just a little bit more time.

“Do hurry!” he called out at the Ranger’s retreating figure, turning his attention to the Drampa who was still trying to get up and continue in a last-minute desperate attack to get away.

Seeing as there was an ice-colored Ninetales and an ice-colored Sandslash hovering close to where the Drampa had collapsed, he then nodded in his Glaceon’s direction.

A series of Ice Shard attacks went flying, striking the area close to the draconid’s face; causing it to howl in pain before releasing a sudden burst of Dragon Breath.

“Marius! Ice Beam that and extinguish the attack!” he called to his Lapras, getting out of the way as the dual-type quickly fired off an arctic beam of energy, meeting the other attack before causing it to peter out and slammed at the Drampa full in the face.

“Calm down,” was all he could say in the draconid’s direction, squinting nervously around the area. What was taking Mihai so long to come back? Surely the drop-off for the capturing device wasn’t taking this long, was it?

Come on, where are you… it’s still struggling! He thought frantically, hoping that he didn’t have to strike it with a point-blank Ice Beam to the face just to restrain it from moving further.

Mihai's feet touched the ground outside the pokecenter. He was clearly in a rush as he entered the building and asked them to check their digital shipments. With a nod and a few minutes, he had the round purple ball in his hands. He signed for it and then bolted for the door where Kama was waiting.

She grabbed her trainer and off they went. The air stinging his face a little as they rushed back. Asta growled as he spat out a purple toxic mass poisoning the dragon. The wind dead around them as he was finding himself tiring. He couldn't keep up his attack any longer.

Just a bit more; victory was in sight for the dragon if only it could out last its foes. It gave a mighty roar only to feel something knock it in the snout. In a flash, it disappeared and Mihai had to pride himself in his strong throw. They had returned just in time.

"Hope I wasn't too long," Mihai said watching as the ball rattled several times before sealing itself. Something told him there was no rehabilitation for this pokemon.
